The Cats of Sunday Street
A safe haven for community cats
in Northern California
Our mission is to advocate for the welfare of all cats by being a model, cage-free sanctuary and no-kill shelter
We’re Craig and Bernadette, co-founders of Cats of Sunday Street. For years, we’ve devoted our lives to rescuing, caring for, and advocating for animals of all sizes. When the Northern California wildfires struck, they left many local cats displaced, frightened, and struggling to survive without shelter, food, or medical care.
It became clear that our mission as humane and compassionate individuals was to provide assistance, as needed, to the community cats that found their way to us.

How Our Sanctuary Began
In 2018, we expanded our outreach—providing food stations, safe shelter, and humane trap-neuter-return (TNR) services to help stabilize the overwhelmed neighborhood cat population. Before long, our neighbors reached out whenever they spotted a cat in need, and our small backyard mission quickly grew into a community effort.
By 2021, with the help of family, friends, and supporters who believed in our work, Cats of Sunday Street became an official 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization.
Today
We continue to rescue, rehabilitate, and provide lifelong sanctuary for vulnerable cats. Our vision is to create a healthy, nurturing environment for homeless community cats—providing them with compassionate care, nutritious food, safe shelter, and essential medical support.
We strive to be part of a connected network of caregivers, working alongside volunteers, donors, and local businesses to protect and uplift every neighborhood cat in need.
We envision a community where every homeless cat feels safe, loved, and cared for.

Why “The Cats of Sunday Street”?
Our name was inspired by the lyrics of the song “Sunday Street”:
“If I ever get back on my feet,
I’ll move from Saturday Alley up to Sunday Street.”
For us, Sunday Street represents hope, a brighter, safer place where things get better. That’s exactly what we want for every cat we meet, a chance to find their own “Sunday Street.”
